I was always under the impression that the +accuracy/+speed from spec was roughly equivalent to the +accuracy/+speed from fury, but that fury had the huge damage modifier as well. Why should a merc ever be able to do more damage than a furied barbarian? I must be missing something.

I agree. I used to play with the old void orbs and I always had the feeling that the opponent could parry better. But I also had the feeling that I could disarm an opponent easier. I remember duels with 2 or 3 disarms on a row against swasies.
